What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word, which means “Universal Life Force Energy”

Essentially Reiki is the power that acts, and lives, guided by a Higher Intelligence, in all created matter.  It is the life force with which we are made!  A seed that grows into a flower or a tree is created with the Reiki life force that enables it to grow and blossom.  It moves the tide and creates the planets.  It has sustained all that has been in existence since the beginning of time, and is limitless.  It is a non-physical energy and cannot be measured by scientific instruments, although it is experienced as a physical reality.  Reiki is Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy.

Some people see Reiki as an expression of unconditional love.  It has no attachment to any religion, spiritual concept or belief system.  It has nothing to do with Spiritualism or the Occult.  It is a universal energy that is compatible with all religions, belief’s, nationality, race, colour or creed and is entirely non-judgmental.

Reiki healing is done by channelling the Reiki healing energy through the body, and especially the chakra energy centres (Specifically though the crown, third eye, throat and heart chakras.)  It is channelled from the hands of the Healer into the recipient.  It does not use energy from the Healer and so it is very useful for self-healing.  The ability to give healing will remain for the rest of the person’s life – whether or not healing is practised regularly.

The Reiki Attunements are performed by a Reiki Master who facilitates the process, but has no other control over his or her students.  The Master is simply a person who can facilitate the healing process in others, having made a life-long commitment to live and grow with Reiki.

Reiki is ultimately a Spiritual growth tool, and the people who are attracted to Reiki are already on the path of self-awareness and are open to change.

Reiki was discovered at the end of the 19th century by a Japanese priest, Mikao usui (1865-1926), who was a Christian minister and president of a small university in Tokyo.  He was a talented student, had a wife and two children and was interested in history, world religions, medicine and psychology.  He was also a seeker and was profoundly interested in meditation and finding the truth.  After his enlightenment on Mount Kurama in 1922, he went on to spend several years devising, practising and teaching the Reiki system.

Mikao Usui

‘If Reiki can be spread throughout the world it will touch the human heart and the morals of society.  It will be helpful for many people, not only healing disease, but the Earth as a whole.’
